    1. I’m not really sure what to say about this one. It is a short story and it is really more a teaser for An Unproven Concept: The Unfortunate Starwreck of the Spaceliner Titanic than a story in its own right.I read it because it was said that it was the first book in the Vergassy Chronicles and I was interested in reading the above mentioned first full book in the series. Well, I will read An Unproven Concept, actually I have already started, but that is more because this teaser did not convince [...]

    2. I think what I found most interesting in this short fiction was the world just beyond the confines of the story--particularly the way character interactions are influenced by their birth culture. This is why I gave "Ride of the Late Rain" three stars instead of two. I did not give it more stars because the captain's characterization did not seem to fit with how the rest of the characters regarded her. They were much more confident in her than I am--she just seemed more like the chairman of a com [...]

    3. Riveting! "Ride of the late Rain" immediately pulled me in and kept me readingon the edge of my seatuntil the very last wordwhich came far too quickly for my liking. It reminded me, of the feel, emotion and characterization of Orson Card's "Ender's Game." I couldn't help but laugh at the easy -back and forth-between the Captain and her crew or ignore the sense of pride I felt when she made the ultimate sacrifice----fulfilling her first directive in service to the human race. WOWn't wait to read [...]

    4. In the year 3050, Agenor Acheros is sent to the destroyer, Shigure, with orders for her captain. Regarded as little more than a garbage scow he is underwhelmed by the ship and his mission. But the Shigure is more then she seems, captained by Leslie Hawkins and with a new crew she has been outfitted with the latest technology including the “first operational Herbert drive in the Confederation Navy.” Captain Leslie Hawkins is shocked to discover(Click here to read the complete review).

    5. I got a Kindle and wanted to get started on books I had purchased, but have failed to read. This took my much longer to read than it should have because I can get easily distracted in life. Military space opera is not something that I usually read, so I have a difficultly envisioning much of the action. I will say I was at least curious to see what was going to happen with an Unproven Concept.

    6. Good short story. Ending was a little too abrupt, but I think that was the authors intention. Good tactical description of events. Good use of perspective and balance of description and action. Characters are a little cliche, but overall this was a good effort. I look forward future works from Mr. Young.

    7. Excellent! My only problem is in keeping up. Although this is not my usual genre choice, I'm very tempted to start reading the series.
