    1. I don't normally read short shorts, especially fiction. I'm more of an I'm-in-it-for-the-long-haul type of reader. Yet the tone of "Our Children Are Not Our Children" tugged at me from the first lines:"Dad, I have to go to the bathroom. You just went to the bathroom forty-four miles ago. Yeah, but we had orange soda and all and the bumps in the road are making me have to go again."The writing is crisp, direct and identifiable, and though we don't want to admit it, most of us have been the whinin [...]


    2. The five "tiny tales" in this collection of short shorts are like slices of life, glimpses into the lives of some pretty selfish people. In "Car Trip," you have the father who refuses to pull over to the side of the road so his children can relieve themselves, a story told entirely in dialogue. I felt like I was in the car with these people, the parents yelling at each other, the children crying. In contrast, Brennan also presents us with "Overexposure," a story about a dad who is a nudist and w [...]


    3. Just a sampler really, but if this is any indication of the way Brennan writes his novels then he's won a fan! I'm looking forward to reading Yesterday Road now. And no matter which way you spell it, humour is not easy to write. So congratulations on the excellent humour in these somewhat poignant stories.
