    1. Energy. It's a hot topic right now and I'd bet it's going to stay that way. Open up The Shocking Truth About Energy and join Erg the lightning guy (okay, actually, Erg is "pure energy!") as he tells you about all the different methods for harnessing energy, how they work, and what their pros and cons are. With brightly-colored pictures and simple (but not too babyish) diagrams and explanations, The Shocking Truth About Energy provides an accessible guide to energy for elementary students. This is [...]

    2. I liked this AND I learned something from it. Crazy. The best feature, if you ask me, is the Good News and Bad News about each energy source. That is the heart of the energy debate, so it's nice to see it highlighted. The layout is a little busy (the way that Magic School Bus books are), but I have the give this book props for the clarity of the writing. This arrived at my library alongside Earth Feeling the Heat, which was completely depressing, so that made me appreciate this book all the more [...]

    3. Grades 2-5. Explains types of energy (heat, sound, light, motion, electricity, fuel) and how to "catch" it. Shows different types of energy resources: food, fossil fuels, nuclear power, solar, wind, hydroelectric, geothermal, and biomass. Discusses global warming and touches on conservation. Busy graphics and text will engage readers.

    4. This is a simple, yet entertaining and informative way to teach children about electricity. I think our girls preferred the Magic School Bus book The Magic School Bus and the Electric Field Trip for learning about the electric grid, but overall this book is pretty good. It offers many different ways we can generate electricity and shows the pros and cons of each. It even discusses the fuel we put in our bodies to give us energy to move. It shows various renewable sources of energy and it provide [...]

    5. This 2010 release is a must-have for any science shelf, but is also very entertaining and a great "gateway" books to interest kids in science. The "good news-bads news" blurbs develop understanding that energy, like most things in science and the world in general, can serve us or harm us. Our choices, actions, and understandings can make a difference. Back matter is also accessible with a strong emphasis on "green" decisions.

    6. This book is a fun and electrifying book! I think that his book is a great introduction to Energy and how it is formed. The writing style of this book is easy to understand and very informative. This book would be placed in my informational text shelf because it is just a great science book. This book can be used as a formal or informal type of text.

    7. Pages are really busy--it hit on everything, so nothing was covered in great detail. Good for basics, not for more in-depth info.

    8. The cartoon illustrations really aid in understanding! This book is full of information, but at no point does it feel overwhelming.
